Original stars of the cult classic Puberty Blues come together for beyondblue!

Beyond Puberty Blues

The star of the original Aussie cult classic Puberty Blues, Nell Schofield has come together with her former co-star’s son Miles Meuke, for a Jad Capelja tribute night to celebrate Jad’s life and to raise funds and awareness of depression for beyondblue. The event will be held at the Bondi Pavilion Theatre on Saturday 13th October from 6pm.

Schofield, who was in contact with Capelja through some extremely distressing periods, remains close to Capelja’s 23-¬year-¬old son, Miles. “There is so much hype about the film and about the TV series, it was like, can we do something good out of all of this? Can we actually benefit some other people?” Schofield says.

The benefit will include a screening of Bruce Beresford’s 1981 Puberty Blues and a performance from reggae band King Tide, which is headed up by Tony Hughes, who played‘Danny’ in the movie. DJs Avra Cybele and Annabelle Gaspar will also spin tunes through the night and there will be a silent auction including hot ticket items like a SofTech softboard, a sculpture by Wynne prize winner Lionel Bawden and heaps more.

beyondblue CEO Kate Carnell AO thanked Nell for supporting beyondblue and raising awareness of depression and anxiety, which are common conditions, but effective treatments are available. “We appreciate Nell’s generosity in donating the proceeds from this unique screening, which will help beyondblue to continue its work across the community.”

With special guest appearances from other original cast members as well as some cast members from the new Channel 10 TV series ‘Puberty Blues’, the benefit will be a celebration of Australian beach culture from the 70s til now.

So put on your best retro surf gear and get ready to go Beyond Puberty Blues.
