What is required of me if I want to send in a funny video by mail?
We are able to accept clips in VHS, MiniDV, DVD video, DVD-ROM and CD-ROM formats. If you are sending a video on DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, it must be in AVI format and saved in full resolution (720 by 576 at 25 frames per second) for broadcasting purposes. Please ensure your computer editing program's project settings are PAL (625/50) upper field first and not NTSC (525/60).
What is required of me if I want to upload a funny video to SkyDrive?
If you are uploading videos to SkyDrive and sending the link, AVI format is still the most desirable. We will strive to work with any format we receive but if our production process can't accommodate it you may have to try sending your clip in the mail.
Can I send my entry in on a USB?
If you are mailing your entry, we need you to send us your entry on either a CD, DVD, VHS or MiniDV. We cannot accept USB entries, memory cards, or entries on Hi-8 tapes.
You can also use the Windows Live SkyDrive feature to upload videos. Read more about submitting entries via SkyDrive
What do I need to include with my entry?
If you have used SkyDrive to upload your clip and send us the link, make sure you have filled out the form on our website and accepted the terms and conditions.
If you mail your video make sure to include your full name, address and telephone number. If you think that your clip needs a bit of explaining, feel free to include a little story to help us find the funny part! If you would like your entry to be returned please include $5 (cash, cheque or money order). Please mail your clip to Locked Bag 9999, Crows Nest, NSW 2065.
What if I'm having trouble transferring my entry to a CD and/or viewing it?
Try the following things:
- Try your CD or DVD in a standard DVD player to see if it works.
- Make sure you finalise your session when burning a clip onto CD or DVD.
- Check what the file format is. To do this find the file on your computer, right click on the clip icon, scroll down and click on properties in the drop down menu, look for "type of file".
- Have your CD or DVD clip converted onto a VHS tape.
- If you've tried all this and you're still having problems, we recommend visiting your local camera or photo shop where the staff can be very helpful when it comes to difficult technical things!
Isn't it just easier if I send in the original?
We don't ever recommend sending us your original tape. While we are very careful to return all tapes sent to us with return postage included, they are not returned via registered mail and unfortunately things do at times go missing in the post. We don't want you to lose any of your precious memories, so where possible please send us a copy of your original.
If you upload your video and send us the link using SkyDrive please keep a backup as well. If we cannot work with your file type, codec or format we may ask you to send it again in the mail.
How long does it take for my clip to be screened?
Due to the large volume of entries we receive each week, please allow us six to eight weeks to view your clip. You will be contacted if your clip is successful.
Will I be notified if my clip is going to be played?
Your clip has to make it through a screening process, after which legal documents will be sent to you to be signed before your clip can be shown on television. So rest assured, you will definitely know when to be watching to see your clip.
