Matthew Newton was born in Melbourne and is one of Australia's most respected actors, writers and directors. Matthew is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Australia's most prestigious acting college.
Matthew made his directorial debut with Right Here Right Now, which won Best Feature at the 2006 Rebelfest International Film Festival. He has also played lead roles in numerous films including Looking for Alibrandi, My Mother Frank, Blurred, Queen of the Damned, The Bet and Bitter & Twisted.
Matthew has appeared in many television series including All Saints, Stupid Stupid Man, Grass Roots, Farscape, The Surgeon, Water Rats, Thank God You're Here and the critically acclaimed Changi, for which he was nominated for the Most Outstanding Actor Logie award.
He received a Helpmann Award Nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in the stage play, The History Boys. Most recently, Matthew starred in the political play Rock 'n' Roll for the Melbourne Theatre Company.
