ERIN & JAKE

The final cut: Erin and Jake's apartment

For renovating newcomers Erin and Jake, the challenge of transforming an apartment from scratch was so overwhelming they went all out to publicly declare themselves the underdogs. That was before they won three of the seven rooms — something never seen before on The Block.

From week one when they won best room, Erin and Jake delivered bold, dramatic rooms that never failed to impress the judges. Their colour palette, styling and New York-inspired theme combined to produce rooms with a serious "wow factor" — a compliment that was almost exclusively reserved for them.

Erin and Jake took out the prize for best room in week one (their guest room), week four (the main bathroom) and week seven (kitchen/dining). But despite their newfound abilities as renovators, Erin and Jake faced some serious challenges.

Just a few weeks into the competition, Erin's grandfather passed away causing emotional stress and potentially costing them the win for the master bedroom. In addition, they had to plan their upcoming wedding amid the rubble while Jake completed his PhD and continued to train for Olympic selection in kayaking.

Later in the series the couple was disqualified for cheating after they used Jake's identical twin to assist with their paintwork. This was an emotional time for all but with the prize in their sights, Erin and Jake bounced back.

At the end of the competition they had the most wins and were hopeful of a good return at auction. They were not disappointed.

Apartment three: key features

> A recurring colour palette of whites, creams navy blue and black (in paintwork and furnishings)

> Dark-stained wooden floorboards throughout

> Two bedrooms: one master and one double guest room

> One office or chill-out room

> Ensuite adjoining master bedroom

> Main bathroom with full-sized bath

> Covered balcony adjoining the living area via bi-fold doors

> Water views

> Good storage space

Overall: a chic, modern apartment featuring dramatic use of colour and contrast combining to give the unit a theatrical edge. The main bathroom has a full bath and stunning tile work while the bedrooms and living area all feature elaborate chandeliers. It's the ultimate in fashion and sophistication.
