Original Nine Airdate: 28th April 2011
A night of R&R ends in disaster when a bar 2Dads is in is destroyed by a suicide Bomber. The crew mobilise to help with the injured, with Swain using all of his medical training to save lives. Charge discovers 2Dads beneath the rubble and pulls him out, mostly unharmed. As the crew continues the rescue effort, 2Dads recognises a young woman whom he was talking to just prior to the explosion. Seeking to help her, the young woman runs. 2Dads’ pursuit ends in tragedy when the woman is hit by a speeding car. 2Dads endeavours to give her CPR, but is shocked when he discovers a suicide belt beneath her clothes. She was part of the terrorist plot.
Back on Hammersley, 2Dads is dealt another blow when he learns, via email, that his relationship his over. But he has little time to dwell on it when Madelaine Cruise, a civilian claiming to be with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, commandeers the ship for a covert SAS mission to kidnap and question a potential suspect in the bombing.
Picking up the SAS from a parachute drop, Kate is shocked to discover one of the SAS is Jim Roth, her former lover.
Jim seconds Dutchy into his team when one of his men breaks a leg, which raises the ire of Madelaine, who seems to have something against Dutchy. On a clandestine op, they snatch the suspect and take him back to the ship. Mike suspects they intend to torture him for information and quickly intercedes in a fiery showdown with Madelaine. It’s becoming more obvious to everyone that her DFAT affiliation is just a cover; she’s an ASIO spook. Madelaine has intelligence that the man behind the bar bombing is about to hit another Australian target, possibly the embassy.
Madelaine gets a name and safehouse address, and with Jim and Dutchy, launches a raid on the house. At the same time, Hammersley receives bomb victims on board to transport back to Cairns. Just when Dutchy realises that Hammersley is the terrorist’s new target, 2Dads also recognises the "third man" from the bar on the Austere CCTV, posing as a doctor. He races to intercept him, eventually tracking him to the Fuel Tanks where he is about to detonate his bomb and sink the ship.
In a fierce fight, 2Dads manages to prevent detonation, but is left holding the dead man’s trigger ready to fire.
In a tense moment, Dutchy returns and deactivates the suicide vest.
Returning to home port, Dutchy confronts Madelaine – what does she have against him? Madelaine hints that she knows all about Dutchy’s troubled past. And when Jim sounds Kate out about her and Mike, Kate reveals that Mike is poised to resume his shore posting, thus enabling Mike and Kate to finally be together.
