In episode six of
The Apprentice Australia, the contestants compete for a deal with one of the world's largest and most influential companies.
For this week's challenge, the contestants had to develop a TV commercial for Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 7. Heather joined Pinnacle and was made project manager. Mary-Anne joined Eventus, where Carmen was project manager.
After a meeting with Microsoft executives the teams had to write, produce, direct and present an ad for Windows 7. The team whose presentation Microsoft liked most would win the challenge.
Pinnacle decided on an Australian theme for their ad and Morello came up with the catchline "tell your mates". They shot their ad at the aquarium and beach, and did not include one shot of a computer.
Tension coursed through Eventus after Gavin took control in the Microsoft executive meeting. An attempt to reconcile their differences resulted in Carmen telling Gavin she didn't want him working on the project.
Eventus based their ad around the catchline "makes life easier", and filmed three generations using Windows 7.
The Microsoft executives were impressed with Eventus' ad, but said they shouldn't have started the presentation with it. Pinnacle delivered a seamless presentation, however the Microsoft executives noted their ad could have been for anything.
In the boardroom, Mark Bouris announced that Pinnacle won the challenge as the Microsoft executives couldn't work with the tension in Eventus. Pinnacle won an informal get-together with the Microsoft executives at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney's CBD.
Mark sent Sam and Mary-Anne back to the house, leaving Carmen and Gavin in the firing line. Mark fired Carmen as a result of her failed leadership and team management. Mark warned Gavin not to underestimate the people around him and to stop playing the game.
Mary-Anne couldn't believe Mark didn't fire Gavin, and left the room when Gavin returned to the house.
Stay tuned as the apprentices learn the fine art of selling.
