I have to disagree Jimmy. The stories depicted on the Underbelly series focus mainly on how and where these events occurred and not so much as how they ended up. What is also frustrating for viewers is that the focus always seems to be directed at Melbourne and Sydney all the time, while other cities get ignored. People who live in Melbourne have a different attitude to those that live in Sydney and likewise, the people who live in Brisbane and Perth have a different attitude again. Too put it simply, if the producers of the show are so narrow minded and one eyed bias, that they cannot look past these 2 cities and be open enough to tell stories from other places, then I speak for others who agree that the Australian television industry has a lot to learn about diversity. How many more Underbelly series do we have to endure before we finally get to see a story about somewhere else for a change? e.g. Viewers have waited long enough to see a series on Brisbane's Fitzgerald Enquiry.
Firstly i dont think it has anything to do with State orientated crime, more so good, interesting story telling. I think there are a ton of good storys possible, that can link into other stories etc. For example the initial Underbelly, feauturing the Gangland Murders, a story on the 'Company" who helped Mokbel escape would be very good story telling as these were just young men, (i knew them) and they helped one of Australias most wanted criminals excape to Greece on what would seem like a storyline straight out of the movies, and they succeeded, that is, until one of them decided to talk... What happened next is history, and would make for some awesome TV. Mokbel and his eventual extradition back into Australia, his reuntiting with old friends and foes at Melbournes prison system, the undoing of his empire - It all would be very interesting indeed. So perhaps start looking at the stories as a whole rather than being concerned as to the states they were from.
I would love to see a documentary on Carl Williams, not only of how the media has portrayed him and his stay in jail but how he was as an individual. How he adored his family. I have met Roberta and Dhakota and I think he and Roberta have done a wonderful job as parents of Dhakota. I miss Carl and it has been 2 years since he was murdered as he too was a victim of crime. RIP Carl(19th April 2012). Carl was blamed for all the drug activities and now who do they blame? Was he to blame for the drug scene I doubt it as it is still prevalent in our society. The police are worse than he could ever me!!
I have to agree with the other guys. I live in Sydney and we are all a bit sick and tired of seeing the same stories that we have all heard growing up a thousand times from our families. *rolls eyes* BORING...I want to hear about other cities like Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Hobart and there are plenty of stories to tell. So come on guys get a bit creative please and give us something a bit different from the same old, same old.
I understand other cities have crimes lol yeah crimes but not as much underworld and organized crimes such as Melbourne and Sydney think of we're all the big shoots are from and think we're you would be if you were going to do organized crime obviously Melbourne or Sydney. It's just logic guys
even if you do one about Adelaide, at least start it from the very beginning from the very start when the crimes were started by Von Eidem, or Truro Murders or The First Woman to be hang. Crimes that actually did happen in Adelaide that would classed as Underbelly material. Cause Australian Crime is all about True Crime in Australia right? and Underbelly Crime Spree did happen all over the country. Not just 2.
Sydney, Melbourne, Sydney, Melbourne. Why out of every state in this country it is always about f***in Sydney and Melbourne. What about the crimes that goes on in Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Perth, Hobart and Adelaide. Yeah they all have the exact same things happen too. But it is always about the might and greedy selfish Sydney and Melbourne. Where I come "Adelaide" have had more *** happened than they did, especially Perth and Brisbane with there crimes. Yes i love yours show, but stop making it all about Melbourne and Sydney and actually tell some horrifying crime stories that happen in the other states in the country as well. You want more viewers to gain more ratings. Than get Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart involve by sharing their stories too. I'm pretty sure the rest of us had some Underbelly Crime Spree to share too.
As much as I have enjoyed all the Underbelly's series so far, some fans would like to ask, with all due respect, why Melbourne and Sydney have to be so far up themselves that they can't see past their own face? For example, Underbelly 1 (set in Melbourne), Underbelly 2 (set in Sydney & Melbourne), Underbelly 3 (set in Sydney), Underbelly 4 (set in Sydney & Melbourne) and finally the new Underbelly 5 (again set in Melbourne). Crikey, get over yourselves! There are other cities with stories to tell ya know and as one of many examples, Brisbane's Fitzjerald Enquiry exposed as much scum and scandal, hookers and corruption at the highest level, as anything Sydney or Melbourne has ever produced. There are also many organised crime and bikie stories that originate from Perth and Adelaide as well don't forget. Don't get us wrong, we love the shows, but could you at least try and mix it up a bit and include other parts of Australia rather than just focus on yourselves most of the time?
dont start underbelly till the other station end the season the crime show about fathers day
The best shows ever made down under. The Acid Kings of Hornsby. Peter and Christopher Lillie.
